Monthly Teach meeting: Northwoods Baptist Church, 3762 NW Capital Circle. Doors open at 6pm for the Library. Meeting starts at 7.

Topic:

TEACH SCIENCE FAIR AND EXPOSITION: Thursday, February 25 at Northwoods Baptist Church in the Multipurpose Room. Looking for a place to showcase what your child (K-12) is learning in science? The new year is a good time to begin activities and the TEACH Science Fair and Exposition hopes to provide the right opportunity for you. There will be two options for this event. The first is a traditional science fair in which students formulate a question and then follow the scientific method to come to a conclusion. Judges will view each project, talk with each child, and award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and participant ribbons. In the second option children can bring a collection, share a nature notebook, show something they've made which relates to science, etc. These entries will also be judged, with 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, and participant ribbons.
Ideas for science projects can be obtained through an internet search(science fair projects, science fair project boards) or checking out books from the public library. Of course your child's questions can be a wonderful source of ideas as well! The TEACH Science Fair is open to all homeschoolers, but as space is a limited, priority will be given to TEACH members in the event of a large number of registrants. Sign up by Tuesday, February 16. Each child will have one-half of a table upon which to set up their display. Participants are asked to email their children's names, ages, and whether they will do Option I - the science fair or Option II - science expo to Julie Feldman at feldrick@nettally.com. You can also direct questions relating to the science fair to her. We also need judges, so if you'd like to volunteer or know of someone in the field of science who might want to judge, please let her know. TIME:Project Set Up- 5:00 Judging - 5:30 General Admission to Display Hall- 6:30 Last year's event had wonderful projects and participation and we look forward to another successful event!
